August 2 is International Roma Holocaust Remembrance Day

World War II is one of the most terrible tragedies of the twentieth century, caused suffering to all nations and led to a huge number of victims. Ukraine was one of the most suffered countries because it was entirely occupied by Nazi Germany , was subjected to the cruelest regime of the invaders and lost during that time millions of people of different nationalities, including Roma.
During World War II the hundreds of thousands Roma were wiped out by Nazis across Europe. In Ukraine, the Roma were among the first victims of the executions at Babyn Yar.

August 2 marks the 69 years since massacre of Roma prisoners in the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz- Birkenau. In accordance with the Resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of October 8, 2004 (№2085) this day is marked at the state level as the International Day of the Roma Holocaust .

August 2 at the National Historic- Memorial Reserve "Babyn Yar" at 11.00 am the flowers were laid to the memorial stone to Roma who were murdered at Babyn Yar.

The event was attended by representatives of Roma organizations, management and scientific staff of the National Historic- Memorial Reserve "Babyn Yar ."

The participants paid tribute to innocent Roma victims with Memorial Prayer and a Moment of Silence .
