On September 28, to the 82nd anniversary of the Day of Remembrance of the victims of Babyn Yar, a multimedia documentary exhibition "Babyn Yar: Mirrors of Death" was opened. The exhibition is designed to bring back deep knowledge about overpast evil and to inspire to stop today's evil.About 100 thousand people - Jews, Ukrainians, Roma - died at the hands of the Nazis in Babyn Yar during the Second World War. The Russian army in Ukraine is now leaving dozens of smaller "babyn yars" behind. The war forced us to reconsider many processes, including the need for new approaches to memorialization. The use of only two formats of work with memory: a cemetery or a museum - led to the fact that in 2021, only 55% of Ukrainians knew that Babyn Yar is located in Kyiv, and 26% admitted that they did not know its location. Therefore, we identified the formation of "living memory" as the core of the development strategy of the Babyn Yar National Reserve. With this exhibition, we sought to draw attention to the "reincarnation of evil", which changes regimes and uniforms but does not change its anti-human essence. This is how the "living memory" works, which the victims of the Holocaust deserve. The exhibition organisers, in addition to the National Historical Memorial Reserve “Babyn Yar”, are also the Museum of the History of the City of Kyiv and the Public Committee to Commemorate the Victims of Babyn Yar.
