21-28 February in the administrative building of the National Historical Memorial Preserve "Babyn Yar" was opened documentary photo exhibition "O. Teliha - the pride of the nation. "
We used to think that Babyn Yar in Kiev - is the place of tragedy of the Jewish people, and only few people remember that they witnessed the last moments of life more than a thousand of Ukrainian patriots.
Among those, who were shot at Babyn Yar by fascists, who died with a prayer on the lips about Ukraine - Olena Teliha, which is now called "the most significant female figure in Ukrainian literature of the twentieth century." German invaders destroyed the great Ukrainian poetess physically, the Bolsheviks - supposedly spiritually, because they had been hiding a free Teliga’s words for fifty years in special depositories. Today the street, which was her last way, the street that runs next to sinister Babyn Yar, is called after her.
In the late 30's Olena lived in Krakow and participated in the preparation of derivatives OUN groups to migrate to Ukraine. October 22, 1941 Teliha was in Kiev, headed established in November 1941, the Union of Ukrainian writers, began to publish a magazine "Kettledrums", where was published poetry of Ye.Malanyuk, O.Stefanovych, articles of U.Samchuk and O.Shtul’, and also Teliga’s works. In early February 1942, began mass arrests of Ukrainian activists. Olzhych ordered to OUN’s members move into hiding, but Elena said, "There are higher things, than order! There must be someone who is looking death in the eye consciously and does not retreat. " Crazy love of life and furious contempt for death seamlessly merged into this woman. February 9, 1942 she was arrested. Her husband Michael was not on the list of those for whom were hunting, but he called himself a writer and was next to his beloved. One of the executioners of the poetess, struck by the courage of Olena Teliga said: "I have never seen a man to die so heroic as this beautiful woman." Even the "cobbler of life," which she ridiculed in her works, bowed their heads before the power of Olena’s spirit
