A mournful procession: “The road of death”

On September 13, there was a mournful procession called “The road of death” which went from the motorcycle factory at the corner of Melnykova and Dorohozhytsi to the Minora monument. In 1941 the Jews of Kyiv walked to their Golgotha at Babi Yar.
On the territory of the National Historical Memorial Reserve «Babyn Yar» near the Minora monument there was a mournful meeting which was openned by the president of the Jewish Council of Ukraine, head of the Memory of Baby Yar Foundation, Illya Levitas, who told the meetings participants about the tragedy of Babyn Yar.
The “Kaddish” and the “El malei rachamim” were recited by the chief Rabbi of Kyiv and of all Ukraine Yakkov Dov Bleich and Rabbi Moshe Rueven Azman.
Present at the meeting were also the Deputy-Ambassador of the State of Israel Yitzak Itzhak Carmel Kagan, representative of the Embassy of Germany in Ukraine Anka Feldhusen, well-known architect and author of the Babi Yar Memorial Complex, head of the Ukraine-Israel Association, professor Larysa Skoryk, representatives of the Embassies of Russia and the USA, employees of the National Historical Memorial Reserve «Babyn Yar», chief of Central administrative board of nationalities and religions Olha Vlasenko, representatives of civic organizations and others.
The meeting was cooperatively organized by the Jewish Council of Ukraine, The Babi Yar Memorial Foundation, (Director, I.M. Levitas), the Israeli Cultural Centre(Director, Gita Vider), the National Historical Memorial Reserve «Babyn Yar» (Director, B.I. Hlazunov) and the Jewish religious community of the city of Kyiv (Rabbi, Yakkov Dov Bleich).
