Meeting of the Organizing Committee for the preparation of memorial events dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Babyn Yar tragedy.

On May 11, 2016, under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groisman and the Head of the Presidential Administration Borys Lozhkin, a regular meeting of the Organizing Committee for the preparation of memorial events dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Babyn Yar tragedy took place.

 

The report on the work was delivered by the Minister of Culture of Ukraine Yevgen Nyschuk. He told about the arrangement of two memorial alleys - the Alley of the Martyrs and the Alley of the Babyn Yar Righteous, which will be created according to the project of Anatoly Haydamaky.

 

Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman informed that the budget for construction works and improvement of the territory of the National Historical and Memorial Reserve "Babyn Yar" is approved. Thus, from the state budget for these works and repairs transferred to the Reserve, according to the decision of the Court of Appeal, the building of the office of the former Lukyanivsky Jewish Cemetery (44, Melnikova St.) will be allocated almost 30 million  UAH. All works in the reserve will be carried out by Kiev construction companies.

It is planned to move the monument to the shot away Jewish children, set up in 2001 under the project of the sculptor Valery Medvedev closer to the memorial alleys, to repair the monument "Menorah" and other monuments installed at different times in Babyn Yar.

 

In the near future, to the "Babyn Yar" Reserve will return from Kamyanets-Podilsky "Roma Kybitka" - a monument to Roma, who were shot away in 1941, created by the architect Anatoly Ignashchenko in 2010.

 

Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Sergey Kislytsia informed the audience that the invitations to the Memorial events in Babyn Yar were sent to the heads of 72 states of the world and more than 200 heads of public organizations.

Director of the "Babyn Yar" Reserve Boris Glazunov told about the problems of the memorial complex and his vision of solving many issues related primarily to the security and arrangement of the protected area.

 

President of the Jewish Forum of Ukraine Arkady Monastyrsky, President of the Jewish Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Suslensky, chairman of the Association of Jews of former prisoners of ghetto and concentration camps of Ukraine Borys Zabarko, President of the Association of the Righteous Among the Nations Sofia Yarova, President of the Jewish Confederation of Ukraine Borys Fuksman, Chairman of the Vaades of Ukraine, Executive Vice President of the Jewish Confederation of Ukraine Iosif Zisels, spoke in discussing the issues of preparing and holding events dedicated to preserving the memory of the victims of fascism.
