January 21at the administrative building of the National Historic- Memorial Reserve "Babyn Yar", a meeting with the Chairman of the Kyiv public organization "Association of Navy Intelligence Veterans " O.V. Marmashov was held for discussing about honoring of memory Pinsk Flotilla sailors, who were shot at BabynYar during the Nazi occupation of Kiev.
Captain 2nd rank O.V. Marmashov spoke about work which was carried by members of the " Association of Navy Intelligence Veterans " to search for archival material about the fate of Pinsk Flotilla sailors.
In the difficult months of Kyiv defense, the sailors of Pinsk Flotilla performed their military duty with honor. Their heroic feat will always be an example of devotion to the Motherland.
On the islands and Dnieper floodplains the sailors had resisted the invaders until the end of October 1941. A tragic fate befell those who did not manage to break through to Red Army . Having no ammunition, wounded and exhausted soldiers were captured.
Accurate quantity sailors who were shot at Babyn Yar in 1941-1942 is unknown.
During the meeting it was a joint decision to approve the February 24 as Memorial Day of Pinsk Flotilla sailors.
