February 24 honoring the memory of Pinsk Flotilla sailors who died during the defense of Kyiv and the Nazi occupation of Kyiv in 1941-1943 held at the Lukianivka military cemetery.
In 1941 sailors with regular units of the Red Army to the last day heroically defended Kyiv and, being behind enemy lines, resisted invaders alone and together with underground members and guerrilla groups.

Captured sailors were executed by Nazis at Syrets and Darnytsia POW camps and into anti-tank ditches near Babyn Yar.

24 February 1942, according to eyewitnesses - residents of Kyiv, at Babyn Yar Nazis had shot a large group of sailors Pinsk Flotilla.
The staff of the National Historic-Memorial Reserve "Babyn Yar" together with members of the Kyiv public organization "Association of Navy Intelligence Veterans" led by Captain 2-nd rank O.V.Marmashov laid the flowers to the monument to 27 POW sailors , who were shot in Syrets POW camp and the monument to Dnieper flotilla sailors who died in the battle of Kyiv.

Earlier, January 21 2013, the staff of the National Historical Memorial Reserve "Babyn Yar" together with Chairman of the Kiev public organization "Association of Veteran Intelligence Navy" - Captain 2 rank A. V.Marmashov decided to approve February 24 as a Day of commemoration sailors Pinsk Flotilla and the annual celebration of this date.
