On March 30, 2023, at the invitation of the National Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine, the Acting Director General of the National Historical and Memorial Reserve "Babyn Yar" Roza Tapanova and senior researcher of the Reserve Volodymyr Korneliuk took part in a meeting with representatives of Jewish public and religious organizations, the Secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, and the experts working on the topics of anti-Semitism. In connection with the entry into force of the Law "On Media" of Ukraine on March 31, 2023, the participants of the meeting discussed the definition of criteria for information that can be classified as intolerant and discriminatory based on national or religious affiliation, in particular, anti-Semitic and xenophobic.The participants of the meeting emphasized that the level of anti-Semitism in Ukraine is the lowest in Europe, it is marginal and is not mainstream in Ukrainian society.
However, the Russian aggressors, waging a genocidal war to destroy the Ukrainian people and the Ukrainian state, are conducting information and psychological operations, trying to incite hatred and international and religious enmity among Ukrainians. For the sake of victory over the enemy, Ukrainian citizens of different ethnic origins united in the armed struggle for the independence of their state. They must fight back on the information front as well.To prevent the negative consequences of hostile influences in the media, the National Council decided to discuss these issues with representatives of Ukrainian society to reach an agreement on the determination of information which concludes signs of discriminatory manifestations. Roza Tapanova and Volodymyr Korneliuk informed those present about the activities of the National Historical and Memorial Reserve "Babyn Yar", expressed their vision of the specified issues and provided relevant proposals.
