In the Road of Sorrow

On the 79th anniversary of the Babyn Yar tragedy on September 29, 2020, the leaders of the state and the capital of Ukraine honored the memory of the victims murdered by the Nazis during the Second World War.

On this day, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Razumkov, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, the Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko laid flowers to the memorial sites located in the National Historical and Memorial Reserve "Babyn Yar".

Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klychko, Director of the Culture Department of the Kyiv City State Administration Diana Popova, and other employees of the City State Administration also paid tribute to the memory of those shot in Babyn Yar.

The guests were greeted by the General Director of the National Historical and Memorial Reserve "Babyn Yar" Boris Glazunov.

On this day, an exhibition installation "In the Road of Sorrow" was held on the territory of the National Historical and Memorial Reserve "Babyn Yar" near the memorial sign "Menorah". In collaboration with the People's Artist of Ukraine Anatoliy Haidamaka, the exhibition installation was prepared and organized by the staff of the National Historical and Memorial Reserve "Babyn Yar".

For the first time, unique exhibits were exhibited to the general public - things that belonged to the people shot in Babyn Yar. Most of these things were collected by the founder of the Council of National Societies of Ukraine and the Society of Jewish Culture of Ukraine Ilya Levitas during whole his life.

The exhibition installation "In the Road of Sorrow" was held from morning to evening in free access for all comers.

In order to honor the memory of the victims of Babyn Yar, in addition to the heads of state and city, the National Historical and Memorial Reserve "Babyn Yar" and the exhibition installation "On the Road of Sorrow" were visited by religious and public figures, thousands of Kyiv residents and guests from Ukraine and from abroad.
